Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Duke Starts Tour. DESCRIPTION: Prince Philip’s arrival in British Guiana was the beginning of the tour. His reception by the people of Georgetown was the prelude to a series of ovations, for his itinerary was to include 10 countries in South America. A bauxite mine near the town of Mackenzie was a feature of the royal visit. Venezuela was the next country on the programme, and His Royal Highness landed at Caracas airport where full military honours were accorded. The Prince was staying 4 days there, and the official welcome was offered by the President, Dr Romulo Betancourt. At the statue of Simon Bolivar, the great liberator of Venezuela and other South American countries, the royal visitor paid his tribute. SHOTLIST: Key scene. CU flag (Georgetown). MS crowd.
