- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Road Ahead. DESCRIPTION: It’s a Birmingham bottle-neck, the junction of Camp Hill and Coventry Road, Bordesley. Our pictures show work in progress, the building of a pre-fabricated fly-over, scheduled to be put up in about 60 hours. The whole job, in fact, was completed in less than 30 hours. Rover’s are looking ahead to Britain’s roads of the near future. Their latest prototype, the T4, is the result of four years research with the T3. This new model is a saloon with a new look, powered by a front mounted 140 BHP gas turbine engine. And now, translucent tyres that light up. The makers claim that the illumination can provide an added safety factor. Apart from that, the tyres are made of a special synthetic material, which promises longer life. There are nearly 400 models at the Motor Show, Earls Court. For people who can afford it, there’s a Bentley Continental, for the modest purse the Wolseley Hornet or the Riley Elf. Vauxhall showed their luxury version of the new Victor. And for £2,400 you could buy a Jaguar Mark Ten. Chrysler showed their Turboflite, an experimental model, powered by a gas-turbine engine.
