Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Over the Jumps. DESCRIPTION: It rained on racegoers at Sandown Park. The big race (the Whitbread Gold Cup) had a number of Grand National horses among the runners, including this year’s National winner. There was a big field, and over 3 1/2 miles to be covered in a downpour of driving rain. The winner was Pas Seul, and the Cup was presented by Mrs Whitbread to Pas Seul’s owner, Mr Rogerson. Rain had done its worst at Badminton, where the Queen spent her birthday. Using a farm cart as a grandstand, Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family were soon absorbed by the thrills of the cross-country event, a race over a distance of nearly 4 1/2 miles, including 34 obstacles. The winning combination of this race and the whole 3-day event was Laurie Morgan on Salad Days. SHOTLIST: Key Scene. TS crowds. TS same. GV bookies. MS race card. MS Floater parading in paddock.
