Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: France in Peril. DESCRIPTION: Only three years ago, General de Gaulle came out of retirement in response to insistent demands that he should take over. Rioting in Algiers, following an Army revolt, was the climax of the political crisis that brought him back. General Salan, then Commander-in-Chief in Algeria, led the call for de Gaulle. Ironically, he’s now believed to be one of the generals behind the present rebellion. When de Gaulle visited Algiers, it seemed that the entire population was out to acclaim him. Now, only three years later, President de Gaulle, in a television broadcast, warns of the new peril, and calls on the people to help. Tanks are in the streets of Paris, and immediate precautions are taken against the possibility of invasion from Algeria. SHOTLIST: Titles over General de Gaulle. Various MS of de Gaulle.
