Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Calcutta Cup. DESCRIPTION: New Zealand’s Premier, Mr Holyoake, wasted no time in meeting the teams, when the rain poured down at Twickenham. Then, England kicked off against Scotland. The match began briskly, and a series of attractive movements at once distinguished their encounter from many of this season’s internationals. After about 20 minutes, England had three points in the kitty. That was the score at half time, a bad omen for Scotland, who last won the Calcutta Cup in 1950. The second half, for much of the time, was almost a repetition of the first. And, near the end, a penalty for England. Horrocks-Taylor took the kick, and it was a good one! Victory to England, who retain the Cup. SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV Mr Holyoake shakes hands with Scottish Team. GV same - English team. TS England kick off. TS Scotland attacking.
