Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pakistan Dispatch. DESCRIPTION: A concentration of 36 warships from UK, Pakistan, Iran and USA at a Pakistan port was the prelude to a large-scale allied naval exercise, called Midlink III. One of the main objects of this exercise was to practise and perfect full co-operation between the Navies of the four countries. A campaign, instigated by the President, has been launched in East Pakistan to get rid of the water-hyacinth. This noxious weed does great harm to crops, and it’s so prolific that volunteers turned out in hundreds to clear away the stuff. Now, to Dacca, where the Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts put on a special performance of its Dance Ballet in aid of the cyclone victims. This was just one example of charity performances being given all over the country in the same good cause. Travelling through East Pakistan, President Ayub Khan was seen during one of many visits he has made to see for himself, talking to people and encouraging them. The cyclones left a trail of great material damage in their wake, and relief has to be on a vast scale, so large was the death-roll; so great the suffering of the peasant people. SHOTLIST: Key scene.
