- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: State Visit Highlights. DESCRIPTION: Gurkhas were on parade at Buckingham Palace, the Royal Review by the Queen and her honoured guest, the King of Nepal. In attendance was Field Marshal Viscount Slim, who himself served with the Gurkhas. Also on parade were members of the Gurkha Brigade Association, retired British officers of Gurkha Regiments. At Guildhall, the Lord Mayor, Sir Edmund Stockdale, led the City of London’s welcome. When the King and the Lord Mayor had taken their places, the Recorder addressed His Majesty, to which the King replied in Nepalese. Then, King Mahendra presented to the City of London a model of a temple in gold and silver. The final highlight of the three day state Visit was at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, a glittering event, attended by the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret. The Queen arrived with King Mahendra, to be received by Lord Home (on behalf of the Government). They were closely followed by Queen Ratna.
