Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Royal Tour of Northern Isles. DESCRIPTION: Her Majesty continued her tour of the Northern Isles. After a short visit to the Island of Unst, the Out Skerries followed, four barren islands, surrounded by good fishing grounds. Then, with the Prince, the Queen walked over the braes to the Lighthouse keeper’s cottage. he’d been acting as pilot for the royal barge across the bay. . The royal tour of the Orkneys began, when Her Majesty went ashore at Stromness. Another flash from the tour was brief stop on the island of Stronsay. On the island of Westray, the Prince used the school bus for a short trip. On Fair Isle (which they’d visited earlier), the only means of transport had been a lorry. The royal party naturally wanted to see something of the local industries here. The most famous is the manufacture of Fair Isle Jerseys. The Queen had a chat with some of the women who knit them. Then, a night departure, a dramatic farewell from people of the Northern Isles. Another departure by night: King’s Cross, London, where Prince Andrew and his nanny left for Aberdeen. Aberdeen saw the end of Britannia’s cruise, and here the Queen and her family came ashore. They were all off to Balmoral Castle. SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV Northern Isles country. LS Britannia.
