- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: British Games. DESCRIPTION: One of the big events in the British Games, sponsored by the News of the World, was the International Mile for the Emsley Carr Trophy. Lazzlo Tabori, the exiled Hungarian, took the lead and held it. He won the race in fast time by at-least 15 yards. The 800 metres was of particular interest because of Brian Hewson who didn’t want to run because of a strained muscle. But selectors wished to observe his form. Brian trailed behind the field all the way, and Don Smith of New Zealand won the race. Mary Bignal won the Women’s Long Jump at over 20 feet, 3 inches. In the 80-metres hurdles, Mary gave further proof that she’s one of Britain’s brightest Olympic hopes. Her time: 11.1. SHOTLIST: MCU start. LS International mile begins. LS Tabori leading. LS Tabori finishes. MLS 800 metres race begins. LS 800 metres in progress and finish. MS crowds. MS Mary Bignal in long jump. LSM Bignal wins 80 metres hurdles. CU Bignal.
