Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Canberra Launched. DESCRIPTION: 45,000 tons of ocean-going liner ready to take to the water at Harland and Wolff’s Belfast Yard: she’s Canberra, the largest merchant ship built in Britain since the Queen Elizabeth. Just nine years after Prime Minister Menzies had named the Canberra bomber, his wife Dame Pattie gave the name to a liner. There was Australian wine to wish her well, and the latest P and O liner moved majestically down the ways. SHOTLIST: GV ‘Canberra’. MS sign ‘Canberra’. MS propeller. GV ship. MS man sawing support blocks away. MS same (2). MS men banging on wedges. MS supports fall down. SLS Dame Pattie Menzies launches ship. GS ship slides down slipway. GV same (2).
