- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Athens Greets Ike. DESCRIPTION: President Eisenhower’s arrival in Athens provided one of the most attractive pictures of the tour. Dusk had fallen, as he drove with King Paul of the Hellenes, but lights, gleaming along the route, revealed some of the landmarks of an ancient civilisation still standing in the modern capital. After Greece came a brief rest aboard the American cruiser Des Moines, in the Mediterranean. The American warship had the pleasure of meeting the Flagship of the British Mediterranean Fleet, HMS Tiger, and compliments were exchanged between Admiral and President. Tunis, now, and a fine escort for Ike, as he drove along with President Bourguiba. Among a number of gifts for the President was a thoroughbred Arab stallion. SHOTLIST: Key scene. LS horsemen.
