Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Boxing - London V New York. DESCRIPTION: The match between senior Amateur boxers of the two capitals, at the Royal Albert Hall, was drawn five all. The Featherweight bout: Johnny Head (London), and Reyes Cruz. It was Cruz who won on points. Light Welterweight Bob Kelsey was up against a tough opponent in Vince Shomo, the New York Captain. Shomo also won on points. Johnny Ould, London, met Sylvester Banks in the Light-Heavyweight class. The Bermondsey boy, winner of London and ABA titles last season, was downed three times, in the first round. After 2 minutes, 30 seconds, the ref. stopped the battle. Now the Heavyweight clash between Dave Thomas and the rather inexperienced giant Oren Johnson of Harlem. Dave Thomas piled up the points to win for London. Light Middleweights Jack Pocknell (London) and Oren Marcano (the Puerto Rican) put up the best show of the evening. This was a very lively bout, with plenty of hard punching from start to finish.
