Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Messing About in Boats. DESCRIPTION: Serpentine Regatta - This is the Serpentine Lido in Hyde Park where the News of the World Regatta took place. One of the events, the Thames Cup Eights, was won by London Rowing Club. In the Double Sculls, Johnson and Hayward of Crowland Rowing Club beat London’s pair. The girls came into the picture in the Ladies’ Eights. An International event, like War canoes in full cry, was won by Germany. Fastnet Race - Another water-borne contest is the Fastnet Race, the climax of Cowes Week. With spinnakers set, some 60 of Europe’s finest off-shore racers, and a couple from the States, headed westwards down the Solent. The course takes in over 600 miles to the Fastnet rock, and back to Plymouth. Tall Ship - These pictures show a brand new square-rigger, built for the West German Navy as a training ship.
