Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: On the Way to the Summit?. DESCRIPTION: By inviting President Eisenhower to visit Moscow, the Russian leader has reacted very favourably to the President’s friendly approach. Soon after his invitation to Mr Khrushchev to visit the United States, a communique was received in Washington conveying acceptance, and asking Ike to visit Moscow. Later, Mr K hinted that his discussions in America might well lead towards a Summit Conference. At this stage, it’s worth remembering Mr Macmillan’s Moscow trip. He certainly deserves the credit for pioneering this personal approach. Indeed, Mr Khrushchev has himself recalled that visit. When Mr Macmillan returned from Russia, he stressed the need for frankness, and the importance of negotiations. SHOTLIST: CU Russian & American flags (key). GV Moscow scene (3). MS people walking.
