MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Irish Election. DESCRIPTION: The Republic of Ireland went to the Polls. The people of the 26 Counties had to choose a new President to succeed Mr O’Kelly. Mr Eamon de Valera, the Prime Minister, was a favoured choice and his opponent for the Presidency General Sean Mac Eoin, the only other candidate for this supreme post.
