- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Theatre in the City. DESCRIPTION: London river, and close by the landing stage at Puddle Dock, Blackfriars, stands the new Mermaid Theatre. Sea cadets arrived with the Mermaid herself ...four year old Caroline, daughter of Jack Hawkins. London’s Lord Mayor was present to give the City’s blessing to the venture. The Theatre owes its being to the enterprise of actor Bernard Miles. It’s the first in the City for nearly 300 years. SHOTLIST: GV St Paul’s (key & title). GV river. LS Tower Bridge.
