MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Royal Visit to Rome. DESCRIPTION: Princess Margaret paid a sight-seeing visit to Ostia Antica, the ancient port of Rome, during her stay in Rome. Accompanied by an archaeologist, Her Royal Highness was intent on examining the ruins of Ostia and the fascinating story they reflect. Unfortunately, cameramen of the Italian Press very often blocked the view, that Princess Margaret sometimes found it difficult to see anything but them!. The presentation of the Byron statue was a ceremony attended by the Queen Mother in the gardens of the Villa Borghese. Also on the royal programme was a visit to the water garden of the Villa d’Este at Tivoli, some eighteen miles from Rome. The fountains are the great feature of this fascinating garden, the most famous and the finest example of its kind in the world.
