- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Golden Probe in Orbit. DESCRIPTION: The sixty ton four-stage Juno launching rocket on its site at Cape Canaveral was ready for the new attempt to probe Outer Space. A gold-plated fibre-glass cone, shielding the thirteen pound instrument capsule, was hoisted aloft for attachment. Wernher von Braun, one of the big brains behind these American space probes, was present for the launching. And now: up she goes! It is a hugh success this time, and Pioneer 4 is on the way to send a tiny speck of gold circling the sun, perhaps for ever. Britain’s Jodrell Bank Radio telescope started tracking it within minutes of its launching. And it’s the first to track a man-made object beyond the distance of the Moon. SHOTLIST: GV rocket site.
