Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Rocket News. DESCRIPTION: New Jersey, where the electronic-brain-centre of an air defence system is always on the alert to protect the densely populated area of Greater New York. This one is, in fact, thousands of miles from New Jersey: a BOMARC missile base, revealing the high degree of push-button defence, already achieved in the States. Controlled from the centre in New Jersey, the missile takes off on its mission of interception. And here, about to be recovered from the sea, is a capsule from the nose cone of a THOR missile, fired from Cape Canaveral. It’s had a journey of a thousand miles at speeds greater than ten thousand miles an hour. From a tape recorder inside a protective covering of plastic foam, important information will be obtained about space flight conditions and missile performance. Now, to a Royal Air Force station in Lincolnshire, which has just been visited by Prince Philip. It is here that the first RAF Air Defence Missile Squadron is being formed, and it is now equipped with the Bristol-Ferranti Bloodhound weapon system. His Royal Highness was given a demonstration of the automatic system of precision tracking radar. SHOTLIST: MS rocket on stand. MS man on telephone. CU same.
