- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: ‘On Your Way’. DESCRIPTION: The first National Highway to be built in Britain in the 20th Century is making good progress. Modern mechanical aids to road-making have gone into action, and the figures are impressive: over a thousand machines and some four thousand men are involved. The Government programme for road improvement over the next four years is likely to cost about 240 million pounds. So this London to Birmingham section of the Highway is not the only major road ahead. At a Public School in London, boys have been treated to a lesson in Safety First by the Metropolitan Police; and in London’s Mayfair district, posts to hold parking meters are signs of the new plan to stop all-day parking.
