Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Algiers Hails De Gaulle. DESCRIPTION: The call for de Gaulle, to save France, began in Algiers. Now, Algiers welcomes the man of its choice. At the airport, he was greeted by General Salan, Monsieur Soustelle and Paratroop General Massu. Then, the drive to the capital began. The 8,000 ton cruiser De Grasse was ready to receive the General, who interrupted his drive for a brief Naval inspection. In the city, de Gaulle’s first act was to pay tribute at the War Memorial. The whole population was out to cheer the General, reaching its climax at the city’s forum with his appearance on the balcony. Yes, it was Victory in Algiers Day! It was the moment of triumph, for Algiers, and for the man, chosen to save France. SHOTLIST: GV Algiers. Aerial shots same. Aerial shot of Navy Guard of Honour. De Gaulle leaves plane. Shakes hands.
