Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Athletics at White City. DESCRIPTION: The British Games, sponsored by the News of the World, were held at the White City. One of the County Events, the hundred and twenty yards hurdles, was won by Hildreth. The Counties Mile produced a championship best performance. Hewson, number 30, was the winner. The two-mile international proved to be the most exciting of this second day’s events. Much of the early pace-making was done by Eldon, followed by Ibbotson. Szabo of Hungary and Pirie were content to lie back, behind the leaders. But then, in the last lap, Szabo and Pirie began to move up. The Hungarian leads in the straight. At the end, a photo finish: the camera gave victory to Gordon Pirie. SHOTLIST: GV track. BS same. MS trophies. GV parade of flags. MS crowd. GV flags. MS crowd.
