Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Brussels Fair. DESCRIPTION: It’s the first World Fair, to be held since the war: and its site, at Brussels, is six hundred acres of park land. Dominating the whole exhibition is the Atomium. Over 360 feet high. The Welcome Hall introduces the star motif, of the exhibition. Among the fifty countries exhibiting, the USA has a giant pavilion: said to be the largest circular building in the world. Close by stands the Russian pavilion: a massive structure of glass and plastic. France has built one of the most striking pavilions: a futuristic fantasy. Some use architecture typical of their history: the Moroccan building, like a Moorish Palace. Thailand: attractively Far Eastern. The British Government pavilion is perhaps the most dramatic of them all: with a wealth of exhibits inside, beneath the crystalline spires: ranging from replicas of the Crown Jewels; to a model of Zeta. Opening day: His Majesty King Baudouin, of the Belgians, with his brother, Prince Albert, performed the inauguration. The Kings father and other members of the Belgian Royal Family were also present. The aim of the Exhibition, King Baudouin said, was to revive the atmosphere of collaboration and peace. The Exhibition is to remain open till about the middle of October. And anything from 30 to 50 million people are expected to visit it. SHOTLIST: Close shot Atomium. Several aerial shots. MS Atomium. Closer same. MS exhibition car travelling.
