Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Aftermaths of Floods. DESCRIPTION: Flood in Valencia - when the water subsided, streets had been turned into mud-swamps. The breaking of the Turia River’s banks caused the loss of over sixty lives, with many people missing and five thousand left homeless. Fire fanned by winds of 70 miles an hour, a bush-fire blazed fiercely in a ring round Sydney, New South Wales. People salvaged what they could of their possessions. In one small area nineteen homes were gutted. Nothing left but smouldering ruin. SHOTLIST: GV of flooded area, streets, buildings etc., MS men paddling through streets. GS car stranded. Another shot men paddling. MS men pushing bikes. BS car stuck in street. Shots of trams and cars stranded. 19 HOMES RAZED - CARD 71944 (163’) LS fire in forest. Closer same. LS house with flames approaching. CU flames. Men fight fire. People remove belongings from house, same. Men fighting fire. Another same. People remove belongings from house. CU fire on bush land. 2 shots people remove belongings. MS men fight fire. Woman runs from others. Nigh - fires raging. Devasted area next day. 3 shots devastated house. CU man salvaging toy pedal cycle. Pan devasted house. GV pan fires still burning.
