Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Trooping of the Colour. DESCRIPTION: The Queen Mother arrives on Horse Guards Parade with Princess Margaret and the Royal children, for the annual spectacle which marks the Official Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. The Queen was riding a new mount, the police horse Imp - short for Imperial. After receiving the Royal Salute from her guards, the Queen made her inspection of the Parade. She was followed by Prince Philip and the Duke of Gloucester. The next phase of the ceremony was the counter-marching of the Massed Bands and Drums. Colour-Sergeant Pittaway handed the Queen’s Colour to Regimental Sergeant-Major Mercer. It was then received by the Ensign, in whose keeping it remained throughout the actual trooping ceremony. The ceremony drew to a close with the March-Past. Colonel Reid, the Field Officer in Brigade Waiting - reported to Her Majesty. The Queen then rode forward to place herself at the head of her Guards and lead the way back to Buckingham Palace. The crowds surged forward as Valiants of Bomber Command flew over.
