- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Queen in Portugal. DESCRIPTION: Perhaps the happiest feature of the State Visit was the spontaneous enthusiasm of Portugal’s welcome to Rainha Isabel and her husband. Recognising the Queen’s love of horses, President Lopes surprised Her Majesty with a splendid gift of the Royal Stables. Students spread their gowns for the Queen to drive over. People of Restelo Garden suburb, near Lisbon, put out more flags, they even hung shawls and the best bedspread. The same warmth and sincerity marked a more formal occasion, a gala performance of ballet and opera at the Sao Carlos National Theatre. On the Queen’s arrival at the fishing village of Nazaire, the fisher-folk forgot their dancing. To Oporto in Northern Portugal and the final scenes of farewell. Surprise visitors at London Airport were Prince Charles and Princess Anne. What a wonderful moment for them all, the Royal Family were together again.
