MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Christmas Island Preparations. DESCRIPTION: Far away in mid-Pacific, just North of the Equator, Christmas Island is today the centre of attraction for scientists and servicemen, who are busy preparing it as a base for Britain’s nuclear tests to be held next year. SHOTLIST: Various shots of the Island. Aerials of same. CU signpost Welcome From Xmas Island. People lined up, group of little coloured children. Shots of sea various craft also landing craft. ‘Duck’ vehicles being landed on Island. Men directing operations. Cargo ship. Lorries and equipment driven ashore. Lorries and trailers driven through Island. Bulldozer ploughing down trees etc. pushing them along. Trees falling. Hastings aircraft flying over ships, into camera. CU air traffic control notice. Plane coming into land. Men getting out of same. British Forces Post Office, letters and parcels being sorted. Men working. Shots of buildings and machinery working. Men operating some sort of pump. Two men share drink. Congregation of men at service. CU of padre. CU of large cross. NAAFI sign. Men sitting at tables in the open under sun shades. Eating and drinking. CUs. Finish with motor boat across water.
