- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Report From Suez. DESCRIPTION: Not long after the cease-fire, life began to return to normal in Port Said. The civilian population soon emerged to resume their activities. British troops took over the distribution of supplies. A big haul of arms and ammunition was taken during the Port Said operation, most of it being of Russian origin. Flying over the port, we obtained a vivid impression of the blocking of the entrance of the Canal. About 22 ships of various kinds and sizes were sunk on Nasser’s orders. Allied occupation forces halted just north of El Kantara. Meanwhile, the first advance party of the United Nations International Police Force arrived in Italy, en route, for Egypt. Canada’s Major General Burns is the Commander of the Force. Back in Cyprus, British paratroops were seen returning to base. SHOTLIST: Port Said: Civilians in streets. British troops controlling supplies. Troops looking at arms and ammunition taken during the Port Said operation. Scenes from helicopter flying over port, blocked entrance of the Canal, sunken ships. North of El Kantara - British troops on road beside Canal. United Nations interior. Police force arriving in Italy. Major General Burns coming down steps of plane.
