- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Nasser Says No. DESCRIPTION: Mr Menzies (leader of the Five Power Delegation in Cairo) failed to persuade Colonel Nasser to modify his uncompromising policy, regarding the future of the Suez Canal. Slip pan to Mr Menzies making a speech - Its task was to take the proposals of the 18 powers at the London conference, put them to the President of Egypt, explain them, illustrate them and persuade him if possible to agree, but on the hard central core in principal he would not agree. Long arguments, detailed arguments, arguments too enthrow??, the answer is that Egypt will have nothing to do with any peaceful solution in the Canal issue which doesn’t leave Egypt the sole and undisputed master of the whole of the operations of the Canal, subject only to the 1888 convention.
