Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Cairo Meeting. DESCRIPTION: Ever since its opening in 1869, that short-cut from Europe to the East, the Suez Canal, had been an international company for all who wished to use it. Near the Company’s Ismailia headquarters, men are undergoing training as pilots. In Cairo, life in the city seemed perfectly normal as the rest of the world awaited the outcome of efforts to solve the Suez problem. Colonel Nasser, had been visited by various delegates who’d been to the London Conference. But he’s agreed to meet the Suez Committee, representing 18 out of the 22 countries. It was at the Presidency that the first meeting took place. At Port Said, the Mediterranean entrance to the canal, a statue honours Ferdinand de Lesseps, the man who opened up this waterway.
