Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: United States Liner Breaks Record on Maiden Voyage. DESCRIPTION: The new 53,000 ton liner United States, biggest ever built in America, handsomely fulfilled her record-breaking promise. Calling at Le Havre, she berthed close to HMS Indomitable. Both Commodore Manning, the Captain, and Miss Margaret Truman had comments to make on the trip. Arriving at Southampton, the liner received a great reception. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV United States off New York. Various shots of the United States under way at sea, also into camera shot. At Le Havre, arrival scenes. On bridge of US Commodore Manning. Aircraft Carrier Indomitable at same quay as US docks. Manning interviewed. Margaret Truman speaks about voyage. US under way from Le Havre to Southampton. Arrival at Southampton, aerial shots of her; approaching dock, crowds on quay. Waving etc. various shots as she comes into dock. Crowds singing as ship comes alongside.
