Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Butler’s Budget. DESCRIPTION: Budget Day interest concentrated on the Houses of Parliament and on Downing Street, where large crowds waited to see the Prime Minister on his way to the House. Cameras were in full force outside the Chancellor’s House and we asked him to say a word for the Newsreel. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. CU pound (stirling) notes. Crowds outside Houses of Parliament, queuing to get into Parliament. Crowds at Downing Street. Churchill out of No 10, waves to crowds, enters car & drive off, crowd surge forward. At Smith Square, Butler out of house, cu-in several cameramen & press-boys waiting. Butler says a few words about the forthcoming budget. SCU holding of Despatch Box. Into car & drives off. Arrivals at HoP.. Churchill’s car enters courtyard. Butler’s car enters. Crowds watching. MS Big Ben tilt down to HoP. GV across river of Houses of Parliament, rather gloomy shot.
