Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Verdict of the Poll. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV prefabricated house estate with fog lying on same - fade out of title. Polling Booth placard put out St Thomas’s nurses arrive to vote. MS Caxton Hall sign. Mr and Mrs Attlee with daughters arrive to vote. Trucking - loud-speaker car along road. SCU Clyde Sanger speaking into mike. MS Polling Station. Horse drawn vehicle arrives at country polling station. Ernest Marles drives chariot to Polling Station - arrival. Mrs Braddock MS. Crowds get out of closed van - brought from slum areas. Polling Station sign. Chelsea Pensioners arrive, some assisted by nurses. Interior Lambeth Polling Station. Voting paper being stamped. Back view person casting vote. SCV cross being placed on voting paper. CU (several) being placed in ballot box. Leaving - handing teller their cards. Churchill makes way through large crowd at Kensington voting station. Arrival of ballot table. Ballot boxes being emptied. Counting votes. Returning officer announces Mr Attlee’s win. Night material - Elevated GV huge crowds Trafalgar Square. Several shots - of lion (in square) & crowds around same. Watford result comes up. Crowds. Another result comes. Crowds. Another result Manchester, Blackley, Piccadilly. Crowds various signs, Mr Churchill’s caricature. Results show Labour leading. Crowds. Trafalgar Square girls show their emotional feelings. Interior seated by fire listening to announcements. Newspaper vendors. Evening News. Vans leave with large loads of papers. People in the streets read newspapers. Royal Exchange, crowds watch results coming through. Tories in the lead. Lord Woolton at Central Office. Tape Machine. Looking at map of British Isles. Commander Sid Perry listens to radios, several shots of people listening to radios. Card players listening to radios. Crowds at Woodford listening to Returning Officer giving name Winston Churchill, the latter addresses the crowds. Transport House Attlee on stage. Attlee stands by door, camera tilts up to Exit sign. At send [sic]. Conservative candidate walks out of caravan & says Three cheers for Mr Churchill. Cut to Mr & Mrs Churchill at Woodford acknowledging crowds. Churchill gives ‘V’ sign and walks into building with Mrs Churchill.
