MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The General Election Breaks Out. (Conservative Conference). DESCRIPTION: Mr Churchill opens the Conservative campaign at Liverpool. At the pre-election service held in St Paul’s, the Archbishop of Canterbury gave the sermon when all the Party leaders attended. After the service they left for the House of Commons for prorogation of Parliament. With Parliament awaiting the verdict of the country on October 25th, the proclamation of dissolution was due to be announced. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Exterior - Churchill makes his way through huge crowds, enters building. Interior - Churchill walks to platform. CU & CU Churchill addressing audience. What is required is a Government with the power to carry on a tolerant, non-partisan, non-doctrinaire system of policy for a considerable time . We are the same people, in the same island, as we were in the great days we can all remember, etc. Cut-in audience listening & applauding. The above is in Liverpool. London - Tilt down St Paul’s Cathedral, Dr Fisher walks up steps. Choirboys walk up steps. Mr Morrison arrives. Mr Eden & Mr Oliver Lyttelton arrive. Mr & Mrs Churchill arrive. Still: Party leaders seated next to one another during service. Leaving. Mr & Mrs Attlee leaving. Mr Clement Davies leaves. Cut-in ground on steps outside St Paul’s Cathedral. MS Palace Yard, Attlee’s car drives in. Mr Churchill’s car drives in. MP’s walk in, cut-ins Big Ben at 11 o’clock. Miss Pat Hornsby-Smith. GV across River Thames of Houses of Parliament - very good. Recorder Commander Poland reads Proclamation by the King, start & finish, on words God Save the King.
