- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Festival of Britain Opened. (Opening Ceremony at St Paul’s). DESCRIPTION: Their Majesties drive to St Paul’s for the Service and afterwards on the steps of the Cathedral, the King opens the Festival. SHOTLIST: Cut story - SCU Festival of Britain emblem. GV Royal Procession leaves Buckingham Palace, passing around QVM. SCU King & Queen with Princess Margaret in open landau. Crowds surge forward near Trafalgar Square. Couple of dogs run along with mounted policemen. Car procession. At Temple Bar King touches Sword presented by Lord Mayor. Landau moves on. Car procession arrive (en route) St Paul’s. MS Royal Procession arriving at St Paul’s. The two dogs were in many shots of procession. Royalty alight & received by Lord Mayor. Walk up steps shake hands with Mr Morrison, followed by Queen, Princesses & Duke of Edinburgh. . Inside St Paul’s: Stills of Archbishop of Canterbury & congregation during sermon. Still: GV Royal Family. Exterior: Royal Party walk out onto portico. Taking their places include, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary, Princess Elizabeth, Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Alexandra, Princess Margaret, Duke & Duchess of Gloucester, Duchess of Kent, Princess Royal, Earl & Lady Mountbatten, Prince Michael of Kent, Prince William of Gloucester. King walks out, trumpeters sound fanfare. King starts address - stills mixing over King’s Speech, stills of the 1851 Exhibition, includes models of Exhibition, Queen Victoria walks through main hall. SCU King during speech. Preceded by Lord Mayor carrying sword, King, Queen & Princess Margaret depart. King shakes hands with Lord Mayor & gets into open landau. Drives away. CU Their Majesties seated in landau. Mix to Tower where guns are being fired. Elevated shot as procession go down Ludgate Hill out of camera. Members of the Cabinet on steps of St Paul’s include Mr Attlee. Crowd outside St Paul’s.
