- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Mount Lamington’s Tragic Eruption. DESCRIPTION: A Movietone ‘plane took off at Popendetta to fly towards New Guinea’s Mount Lamington; approaching the mountain, the vast scale of destruction caused by the recent eruptions becomes apparent - the country is scorched and lifeless. Finally, the most amazing sight of all - the whole of one side of Mount Lamington has gone - eight hundred feet of the mountainside blown away, 25,000,000 tons of rock, they say, hurled far and wide. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Aerial of mountain. LS plane taxies & takes off from Popendetta. Flying - in plane - SCU back view of pilot at controls. Aerial LS of mountain.
