Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Mount Lamington’s Tragic Eruption. DESCRIPTION: A Movietone ‘plane took off at Popendetta to fly towards New Guinea’s Mount Lamington; approaching the mountain, the vast scale of destruction caused by the recent eruptions becomes apparent - the country is scorched and lifeless. Finally, the most amazing sight of all - the whole of one side of Mount Lamington has gone - eight hundred feet of the mountainside blown away, 25,000,000 tons of rock, they say, hurled far and wide. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Aerial of mountain. LS plane taxies & takes off from Popendetta. Flying - in plane - SCU back view of pilot at controls. Aerial LS of mountain. Inside plane Sid Wood with camera, handkerchief round forehead. Aerials of the erupting mountain & surrounding country. Lava streams through countryside. Shot of what was once a village. Side of mountain showing huge crater, half of the mountain having been blown out. Devastation; vegetation & trees, etc lying flattened on ground. More shots of mountain still steaming. All shots except those inside plane are aerial.
