- Summary
- Men and equipment embark for landings on the Eighth Beveland and Walchern Islands. British and Canadian troops make amphibious landings and capture the port of Flushing. Germans finally surrender, but Allied casualties are heavy; the wounded are tended. Allied aircraft fire at Luftwaffe. British soldiers enter a house and emerge with German prisoners; troops rescue Dutch family trapped in a flaming house. US NATIONAL ARCHIVE ENTRY: 10 min, sd, B&W, 35mm British troops descend ships’ ladders into barges; the barges land in the Scheldt Islands; troops run ashore and through a small town. Germans surrender. Wounded are treated and loaded onto trucks. Field guns are fired. Tanks advance. Houses are searched; Nazis emerge and surrender. A Dutch woman is removed from a burning house.
