- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Churchill Opens All-For-All Congress. DESCRIPTION: Winston Churchill made the opening speech when the ‘Congress of Europe’ met at the Hague, Holland. In his speech he called for Europe to unite. SHOTLIST: Interior GV of Hall of Knights, Ridderzaal. Mr and Mrs Churchill walk through crowds down hall to platform. Received by Prince Bernhard and Princess Juliana. GV audience standing and applauding. Mr Churchill addressing the meeting. It is not a movement of parties - but of people. It must be all for all. Europe can only be united by the heartfelt wish and vehement expression of the great majority of all the people, of all parties, in all the freedom loving countries, no matter where they dwell or how they vote. We cannot aim at anything less than the Union of Europe as a whole, and we look forward with confidence to the day when that union will be achieved. Crowds applauding. Close shot of Churchill seated lighting a cigar - very good shot.
