MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Crime Wave Taxes Police Strength. DESCRIPTION: Police resources are being stretched by the rise in crime. Recently the funeral took place of Constable Nat Edgar who was murdered whilst on duty. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS CU Policeman F22. MS traffic (snowing) along Whitehall. Police car out of camera on inside of bus. Inside police car, driver and wireless operator. CU finger dialling 999. Girl walks along street, swinging handbag. SCU of bag being snatched. Cyclist lies in road, small crowd around helping him - first aid. MS policeman takes small child across road. Several shots mounted policeman outside House of Commons directing traffic. SCU of him seated on horse. Police motor cyclist rides round Parliament Square, panning shot. MS police launch on the River Thames. SCU looking towards stern of launch shows Police flag flying from stern. Policeman patrols along Embankment. Fade out. Fade in to LS funeral cortege of Police Constable Nathaniel Edgar into camera approaches Marylebone Cemetery. Cortege turns in cemetery gates. Elevated cortege, led by police band passing through cemetery in heavy snow storm, into camera. Several shots of same. Cut-in crowds on pavement. Crowds around graveside. Cut-in SCU Mr Chuter Ede (Home Secretary) and Sir Harold Scott (Commissioner of Police), passing camera. MS graveside completely covered with wreaths. Police and others pass graveside, the police saluting.
