MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Manchester Freedom for Winston Churchill. DESCRIPTION: Thousands attended inside and outside Manchester Town Hall to see Winston Churchill receive the Freedom of the City. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS GV Town Hall. Ditto street in fore. Lord Woolton by car, Winston Churchill alights gives V sign, followed by his son-in-law Christopher Soames. Crowds stand around entrance. Interior, audience inside Hall. MS Lord Mayor, Miss Kingsmill Jones, addresses the meeting. Presents casket to Churchill. MS of same. Churchill bends over and writes name in Freemans Book. MS & CU Churchill addressing the audience. Refers to the handsome tribute paid to him by the Lord Mayor, which should be paid when one is dead, also speaks of I am addressed as Prime Minister, Minister of Defence etc., now that I have been relieved of the titles etc. - laughter & applause. MS Churchill preceded by Lord Mayor leaves platform amid applause, passing through the audience. Cut-ins of audience listening.
