DESCRIPTION: PRINCESS MARGARET LAUNCHES EDINBURGH CASTLE - In Belfast Princess Margaret carries out her first solo public engagement when she launches the liner Edinburgh Castle. SHOTLIST: KS. Elevated shot of crowds. GV Princess Margaret mounting steps to dais. Vice Admiral Earl Granville arrives with Princess. Top of steps, Tom Smyth (17 year old apprentice) presents bouquet of roses, Princess Margaret cuts one from bouquet and member of company places same in apprentice’s lapel. MS Princess Margaret on dais with Sir Frederick Rebbeck. Princess launches ship says I name this ship Edinburgh Castle etc. etc. Bottle smashes on bows. Band (unseen) plays Hearts of Oak. Ship moves down slipway, out of camera, elevated shots and ship in the water. MS Princess and VIPs on platform, the strains of the National Anthem finishing can be heard. GV steps from platform, crowds standing on slipway. GV crowds in dockyard. Cut-in bows of ship shows name on same.
