DESCRIPTION: TUC OPENS AT SOUTHPORT - The Trades Union Congress’ annual meeting has opened at SouthportMINERS STRIKE - The miners strike continues with some 15 pits closed and lost output of about 150,000 tons. SHINWELL IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE - The Minister of Fuel and Power addressed a meeting at South Elmsall. SHOTLIST: TUC OPENS IN SOUTHPORT - KS Elevated GV Southport Promenade. GV Floral Hall (TUC meeting place). Cameramen etc. stand around grounds. GV Floral Hall. Delegates enter building having passes checked. CU George Thompson and Vincent Tewson. SCU in grounds seated - George Isaacs and Will Lawther. (36 seconds). At Grimethorpe - superimposed title - Miners Strike - GV town of Grimethorpe. GV ‘Ferrymore Blacklegs’ chalked on wall. Miners standing and sitting in roadways of several streets. Horner and Jones leave building. SCU Arthur Horner (General Secretary NUM) and Jones (South Yorkshire representative) standing by car. GV pithead with cornfield in foreground. (40 seconds). Superimposed title - Shinwell in South Yorkshire - Miners stand around in street. GV cinema where Emanuel Shinwell is to speak. People entering hall. GV crowds outside hall. SCU Shinwell on steps outside hall. People listen to Shinwell’s speech through open doors and windows. Interior - Shinwell addressing miners I have great faith in the Yorkshire miner . effect the Union or the Labour Government. (67 seconds).
