MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Reynard Volant Wins Ascot Stakes. DESCRIPTION: The weather was glorious for the start of Ascot and the main fashion point was the hats. Led by the King there was a return to morning coats and toppers for the men. Reynard Volant won the Ascot Stakes for the second year. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS MS racecourse. GV slightly elevated looking down course from grandstand, crowds to right - very good. Various shots of crowds strolling around grandstand and crowds in general. Elevated shot King, Queen and Princess Elizabeth arriving. Open landau passes under camera. Four open landaus in procession, various shots of people walking around in all their glory, girls displaying Ascot fashions, men in their grey top hats and morning dress. SCU group of men all in toppers. CU types of fashions on feminine sex. MS Royal Box shows Princess Margaret with Royal Family, she did not come in the procession, also in Royal Box are Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. MS race board, showing runners etc. MLS of start, and into camera horse, panning shot of horses stringing out, horses passing grandstand. Elevated shot of horses out in the country (swing shot), cut-ins of Royal Box, watching through binoculars. Swing shot - Garter Club No 12 is in the lead, Good Afternoon No 26 moves up and takes lead, approaching last bend. Elevated shot horses into straight, No 26 has now fallen back to 3rd position. Reynard Volant having taken the lead. No 26 Good Afternoon hits rails and drops dead, throwing his jockey, panning - Reynard Volant gaining lead, SCU of him racing on. Into camera (semi) passing the winning post, with Mytholm second and Piping Time third. Royal Box Princess Elizabeth all enthusiastic, clapping etc. Elevated shot Sir John Jarvis leading in the winner, Reynard Volant No 1.
