- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Victims of the Gale. DESCRIPTION: The cargo ship Samtampa was ashore at Sker Point near Porthcawl and this resulted in a second tragedy when during the rescue operation the Mumbles lifeboat and crew were lost. The battleship Warspite grounded on the Cornish coast whilst being towed to be scraped. SHOTLIST: A - KS Aerial of wrecked SS Samtampa. Ditto lying on rocks of Sker Point, near Porthcawl. Seas pounding her, broken in three pieces. Ground shots of wreck, pans of same. GV of Samtampa with shore in fore. Pan from Samtampa to upturned Mumbles lifeboat, several shots of her. Policeman stands by upturned lifeboat. B - HMS Warspite - (Library - Several shots of the above in battle at Narvik). At Mount’s Bay, off Cornish coast, she is seen on the rocks with slight list. Aerial shots of her, several ground shots pans showing also the bay, aerial shot of the Warspite.
