Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Stern Measures in Palestine. DESCRIPTION: A strict curfew was enforced in Haifa when a number of people believed to have taken part in the attack on the Railway Yards were brought to trial. Meanwhile in Haifa harbour a small sailing vessel arrived with 535 men, women and children onboard. The illegal immigrants were transferred to a ship bound for Cyprus. SHOTLIST: KS Elevated shot Haifa - deserted streets. Several shots of deserted streets. Army convoy along road, escorting Jewish prisoners to courthouse. Prisoners alighting from lorries, all chained together. Prisoner enters courthouse. Four Jewish girl prisoners arrive, walk into camera, one has bandage on leg, assisted by others. Girls enter court. British troops carry sack of weapons into court - evidence. At Haifa harbour shots of many ships lying off harbour, crowded with Jews. LS HMS Ajax lying in harbour. Sailing vessel, very small, in harbour. On quay, British guards transfer immigrants from one ship to another, various scenes. Babies in arms being carried, stretcher cases being transferred, another, old man escorted by two guards, kisses the ground. Going aboard ship which would take them to Cyprus, Jews boarding, ship almost covered with barbed wire. British guards at several points aboard ship. Elevated shots of ships.
