Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Monty Gets Freedom of City. DESCRIPTION: Field Marshal Montgomery receives the Freedom of the City of London becoming the latest of our War Leaders to be honoured. After the ceremony in the Guildhall he drove to the Mansion House where he paid tribute to Londoners. SHOTLIST: KS Flag flies over Guildhall. Exterior shot of Guildhall. Interior - Lord Mayor (Sir Charles Davis) receives, Monty seated on platform at Guildhall, amongst the guests are Mr Eden, Mrs Churchill, Mr Attlee, Lord Portal, ACM Tedder etc. City Chamberlain addresses guests. Lord Mayor presents Sword of Honour to Monty. Monty signs Roll of Honour. Monty making his speech, praises the British soldier. Cut-ins of applause by audience, also cut-ins of former lord mayors etc. listening to speech. Monty walks towards aisle on leaving, quick flash to exterior, Monty driving through streets in open carriage, crowds cheering approaching Mansion House, Monty in carriage by himself. On balcony of Mansion House. Crowd shots cheering, waving etc. Monty makes short speech to them, paying tribute to London standing as firm as a rock. SV-CU of him waving to crowds. Crowd shot to finish. CU City of London Coat of Arms on balcony front.
