Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Ascot - Keynote Austerity. DESCRIPTION: Ladies made up for their austerity clothing with a variety of stylish hats. The Royal Procession down the course was resumed and Ascot was returning to it’s pre-war days. The Ascot Stakes was won by Reynard Volant bearing the lucky number 13. SHOTLIST: KS GV grandstand. GV grandstand. Royal procession passes along course, three shots, turns into Royal enclosure. Various shots of crowds, bookies etc. Ladies hat styles, various types. Pre-war shot of men in grey toppers. GV grandstand. Horses canter along course. Horses parading in paddock. King mingles with crowds in paddock. In the Royal group are King, Queen, Princess Elizabeth, Princess Royal, King George of the Hellenes, Honourable General Lascelles, Earl of Euston. His Majesty wears naval uniform. GV Royal Box. The start of the Ascot Stakes, panning shot of field out in country. LS rounding bend to come into straight, panning with horses, Reynard Volant comes up and takes lead, races past post to win by 2 lengths, followed by Star Lover and Wily. Cut-in Royal Box, Princess Elizabeth appears to have lost by her gesture and walking out of box.
