- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Airborne Wins the 1946 Derby. DESCRIPTION: Epsom once gain, and Movietone is happy to present the World’s greatest Turf Classic, won in 1946 by - Airborne. SHOTLIST: KS Elevated shot of Downs crowded, several shots. Elevated GV crowds, grandstand in background. GV crowd in raincoats some with umbrellas. GVs elevated crowds on Downs, car, coach park etc. Post-horn coach arrives. Crowd streams past tipsters, MCU Tic-tack man, bookies, Prince Monolulu I got a horse. Selling and eating jellied eels. Man places wad of five pound notes with a bookie. Accommodation tent (enclosure). Cloudy shot of tower-steel to be used for photographing. Cameramen haul up gear to top of tower. Paul Wyand and Martin Gray start to climb ladders. On top, Paul Wyand shooting. GV Royal car arriving at Tattenham Corner, along course to grandstand. Royal Family, King, Queen, Princess Elizabeth and Queen Mary alight, greeted by Lord Rosebery and Duke of Norfolk. Royal Family walk into camera. CU Royal Standard. MS Duchess of Kent and Princess Elizabeth. Princess Elizabeth makes gesture to the King who walks away. People stand on seats. Jockeys walk through paddock. King walks around paddock. Princess Elizabeth in paddock. Horses with jockeys mounted in paddock. MS King, Princess Elizabeth, Lord Rosebery and Duke of Norfolk. Elevated shot of Downs, crowded, also indicator showing runners and starters etc. Horses parade along course. GV of every horse. King in box. GV grandstand, sun shining brilliantly, up to a few minutes before the big race, it had been very dull. Pan elevated shot of grandstand and crowds. Horses at the start, the off, into camera, cut-in of royal box, horses past camera and out of camera. At quarter mile ‘Gulf Stream’, ‘Khaled’ and ‘Peterborough’ in lead. Cut-in elevated crowds run across Downs. Elevated pan of horses approaching and rounding Tattenham Corner, ‘Khaled’ and ‘Peterborough’ and ‘Gulf Stream’ in lead. Going into straight, ‘Edward Tudor’ moves up. Elevated from grandstand position, horses going up straight, ‘Airborne’ just coming into the race, on the outside he makes a terrific finish. Jockey in hooped shirt, ‘Airborne’ races past finishing post length ahead of ‘Gulf Stream’ with ‘Radiotherapy’ third. Winner led in. Owner, Mr Ferguson shakes hands with jockey Lowry, into unsaddling enclosure. CU horse and owner. CU Airborne’s head. It was an elevated pan shot from _ mile post to finish. Key scenes were library material.
