- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Oxford Win First Peacetime Boat Race. DESCRIPTION: It was a hazy morning in London for the first post war University Boat Race. Oxford went ahead almost from the start and maintained the lead for a three lengths victory. SHOTLIST: KS GV crowds on towpath, Putney. GVs towpath, people wearing comic hats, rosettes, ribbons, eating ice creams etc. Cambridge and Oxford Presidents; coin tossed. Cambridge win and choose Surrey side, natural sound. Oxford carry out boat, followed by Cambridge. Cut-in of crowds, both crews paddle to starting post. Crowds line bank. Boats at ready and off. SV of same; as seen from launch following boats, SV panning gives impression that Cambridge are pulling ahead. Crews approach Harrods Depository seen on left bank, approaching Hammersmith Bridge, shot from Bridge, boats shooting Hammersmith Bridge. Approaching Chiswick Eyot, Oxford gaining all the time, cut-in of launches following. Shot of Umpire’s launch. GV Oxford well ahead. Cambridge not even in picture; camera pans back to Cambridge. Shot from launch - Shooting Barnes Bridge. Cut-ins of crowds cheering (natural sound), swan nearly hits boats, camera pans to MS of swan. Oxford pass first post, past finishing post with three lengths to spare. Cambridge passing winning post, small launch in foreground. Crews flop, and pan to result being written on board of a launch, also the time - 19 minutes 54 seconds. Finish at Mortlake. Most of the race is shot in mist.
