- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pacific War - Tarakan & Okinawa. DESCRIPTION: Latest pictures from the Far East show the Australian landings on Tarakan. The airfield was captured and with the help of native labour quickly restored for the use of Allied planes. More importantly oil wells were denied to the Japanese. One Okinawa victory was slowly but surely won. The civilian population came out from caves and dug-outs and were herded to safety by the Americans. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. LCI etc. fire tracers at coastline. Various shots of Tarakan, Australian 9th Division troops move along road (Tracks) in the bush. Wrecked planes on captured airfields, Aussies with native assistance lay runways etc. Aerial shot of Borneo oilfields. Ground shot of oil wells. Torpedo boats bombard same, tracers, machine gun etc. Night shots, LS of oil wells burning etc. CU gunner firing tracers. Various night shots of burning oil wells. Aerial shots of Liberator through clouds, shots of bombs falling on Palua Group of islands, explosions. CU Liberator gets direct hit, wing crumbles, Liberator crashes to ground in spin. American supplies and equipment make way through mud on Okinawa, jeeps slog through mud. Yanks through forests, jungle, etc. throw hand grenades into foxholes etc., small explosions. Flame-throwers infantry, walk through jungle, throwing flames at objectives. Yanks enter village, inhabitants sit around, Yanks round up collaborators, taken off to internment camp. Long line of same with belongings marched off. LCIs off beaches of Okinawa. CU Jap prisoner speaking (silent) through mike telling other Japs to surrender etc. Japs swim out to surrender, Yanks beckon same. Civilians who have been hiding in caves give themselves up to Americans, who take care of them. Jap Naval officer, seriously injured surrenders, various shots of same, blood streaming down face. Small groups, growing to large come over hillock. Groups of Jap prisoners, POW camp, lines of tents, crowds of Jap prisoners, about 7,000 in same.
